Sir Isaac Brock was a person who, as far as we know, only sat to have his portrait painted twice during his lifetime. A small miniature was painted when he was about 16 years old. Later, while he was stationed in Canada, he sat for the itinerant artist, Gerritt Schipper sometime between 1807 and 1810, likely either in Montreal or Quebec City. The portrait became part of his personal effects which were shipped back to England after his death at Queenston in 1812. The portrait was owned by his…
