Choralis Camerata

Description:

Choralis Camerata is a Niagara Region-based chamber choir of approximately fifty voices (SATB) performing vocal repertoire from all periods of history including contemporary and new works. The choir will draw its membership from the Niagara Region and perform in venues in many communities within the Niagara area.

Our mission is to enrich the musical culture of the communities of the Niagara Region by performing chamber choral works of exceptional quality and beauty.

Chorus Niagara, the major choral arts organization in the region is a 100 voice choir performing concerts each season from October to May. Under the artistic direction of Robert Cooper, its members have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to choral music and established an unprecedented standard of excellence. Chorus Niagara is in its 46th season. With a diverse repertoire of music from Bach to Mendelssohn to the modern era of Durufle, Stravinsky, Brubeck and Lloyd Webber, Chorus Niagara has consistently sung to capacity audiences and critical acclaim.

Cleland, Gordon

Music

Description:

Principal cellist of the Niagara Symphony, Gordon Cleland has performed across North America. He has appeared as soloist with the Niagara Symphony (Schumann Concerto in A minor and Vivaldi Double Concerto in G minor with Gisela Depkat), for the Debut Series in Montreal, and with Mercredi musique (Boccherini Bb Major). He has extensive experience as a chamber musician, notably with pianist Karin Di Bella at Brock University, and is a founding member of the St Catharines Chamber Music Society. Gordon has broadcast frequently for CBC FM Radio and has performed on TV5, the international French television network. His strong interest in contemporary and Canadian music is reflected in the repertoire he performs.

In addition to his activities as a performer Gordon has made a strong commitment to music education. He teaches cello and string techniques at Brock University. He has been a featured performer for the Concertino Program of Jeunesses musicales, whose artists are carefully chosen for their pedagogical skills and their ability to communicate with young people. Gordon has adjudicated music festivals across Canada and runs a private studio in the Niagara region.

Gordon started his musical training in London, Ontario and completed his studies with a Master of Music degree from Boston University. His principal teachers were George Neikrug, Walter Joachim and Gisela Depkat.

Mercredi Musique

Description:

Mercredi Musique Chamber Orchestra has presented chamber works in the Niagara Region since 1994. Past repertoire has included Baroque, Classical and Modern pieces by various composers.

The current musical director and conductor, Mr. H. Paul van Dongen, is a well-known musician and conductor in the Niagara Region. The group welcomes new members who have experience playing orchestral music at an intermediate or advanced level.

We will be having our Spring Concert on Sunday April 18, 2010 at Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Catharines at 3:00pm. The Saint-Saens Symphony no.3 will be performed featuring Lynne Honsberger as the organist. This will be the second time that this piece will be played in the Niagara Region within the last 40 years. It will be an exciting concert which should not be missed.
