TITLE:Executive Director
REPORTS TO:Executive Committee
Position Summary
This is the senior management position for the St. Catharines and Area Arts Council, responsible for oversight of all operations including the development and delivery of programs and services. In collaboration with the Board, the Executive Director develops the vision and strategic plan for the Arts Council.
Responsibilities
Programs and Services
Within the context of SCAAC’s strategic plan, the Executive Director is responsible for development, management and implementation of the SCAAC’s artistic program and projects and the Education Program, which includes building alliances and partnerships within the membership and the community at large. The Executive Director oversees delivery of the membership program and develops new membership initiatives.
Financial Management & Resource Development
The Executive Director prepares the annual budget, project budgets and budget forecasts, and is responsible for overall resource management. This position prepares annual operating and project grant requests, fulfills reporting requirements, and is proactive in seeking grant opportunities. In collaboration with the Board and volunteers, this position coordinates annual fundraising.
Communications
In collaboration with Board designates, volunteers, and staff as available, the Executive Director develops and ensures delivery of the annual communications plan, including all electronic communications.
Human Resources
The Executive Director is responsible for human resources management, ensuring a positive work environment and communications among staff and volunteers. This position prepares job descriptions and contracts as appropriate, and is responsible for staff performance appraisals.
Advocacy
The Executive Director represents the Arts Council in a variety of situations, including membership on various committees as approved by the Executive Committee. The position is responsible for SCAAC’s participation in national, provincial or local arts advocacy issues and ensures that SCAAC has adequate information resources in this area.
Skills and Experience
– management experience of at least three years, including both financial and human resource management, preferably in a not-for-profit environment – demonstrated experience in effective grantsmanship – demonstrated ability to advocate for the arts – demonstrated appreciation and understanding of the cultural sector – demonstrated experience in program development and delivery – demonstrated knowledge of fundraising – excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective community relationships – general computer literacy, with the ability to function in an electronic environment
